The device uses a software application solution for the checking of tachograph cards both during the new product development process and during regular production. Testing of EF files across the Masterfile, Generation 1 & Generation 2 applications are both included in accordance with regulatory requirements. The device must support the control of cards document COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING REGULATION (EU) 2016/799 of 18 March 2016 and 2021/1228 of 16 July 2021
Solution Overview
A test tool for testing compliance of Tachograph contact only ISO7816 specification cards.
We support all the cryptography and mutual authentication sequences for G1 and G2 tachograph cards.
That means our tool is fully compatible with both Generation 1 (G1) and Generation 2 (G2) tachograph systems, covering every stage of the secure communication process between the card and the verification system. This includes:
Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) support – validation of digital signatures to ensure the card is genuine and untampered.
Mutual authentication – both the card and the system prove their identity to each other before any data exchange, protecting against fraud and cloning.
Secure session management – encrypted channels are established, so driver and vehicle data stays confidential and accurate.
Backward and forward compatibility – seamless handling of older G1 cards still in circulation, as well as the latest G2 cards that meet EU Smart Tachograph regulations.
Our solution ensures that any tachograph card — old or new — can be securely tested and verified, with all the cryptographic checks built in.
The system utilises a PCSC reader running with our custom design and built software.
The tool allows testing of 4 different card types, Drive, Workshop, Control and Company. Testing includes the checking of Elementary files for presence, length and value along with cryptographic functionality.
